Find the invisible starting line

A promise of a quick turnaround can mean different things to buyer and seller. The buyer may start counting when they first enquire; the business may start after receiving approved files or materials. Choose one common service and identify the event that makes work genuinely ready to begin. Write it in plain language. If you cannot recognize that event consistently, the scheduling process needs attention before the marketing promise becomes more prominent or more precise.

Describe what can interrupt the clock

List the inputs that depend on the customer, supplier or another specialist. For each, decide how you will show that the job is waiting and how a revised delivery estimate will be communicated. Avoid presenting a long catalogue of excuses. A short explanation of the essential dependencies helps customers prepare. If a requested change alters the work substantially, explain the implications before continuing rather than allowing an earlier estimate to stand without discussion.

Rehearse the customer's calendar

Put a fictional order on a calendar and walk through an ordinary scenario and a delayed approval. Ask a colleague to read the customer message and mark the date they would expect completion. Compare that reading with your own. Rewrite any sentence that produces two different answers. Save the message beside the booking process so the promise and the operational rule stay aligned. A clear starting point makes planning easier even when you cannot responsibly guarantee an exact completion date.
